HEMC/MHEC
Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose
Mikazone® Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose (HEMC/MHEC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether made from natural polymer material cellulose through a series of etherification.
HEMC Profile
Product overview
Mikazone® Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose (HEMC/MHEC) is a odorless, tasteless, and non-toxic white to light-yellow powder that swells in cold water into a clear or slightly turbid colloidal solution. It is soluble in cold water and most organic solvents.
Mikazone® HEMC has significant thickening, water retention, suspension stability, dispersibility, cohesiveness, film-forming properties, etc.
In the construction industry, Mikazone® HEMC can be used as a thickener and water retention agent in the formulation of tile adhesives, grouts, self-leveling compounds, reinforcing and bonding mortars for EIFS/ETICS, gypsum plasters, and so on.
Features /
- Thickening Effect
- Water Rentention
- Easy workability
Mikazone® Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose (HEMC) is used very often as a thickener in building applications as it prevents segregation and improves the cohesion of the formulation components. The addition of MikaZone® cellulose ether imparts excellent stickiness to wet mortar. That can significantly increase the adhesion of wet mortar to the base layer and improve the sag resistance of the mortar.
Mikazone® Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose (HEMC) can be used as a water retention agent in building materials. Mikazone® HEMC can effectively prevent too fast and low penetration of water into the base surface in cement-based products, allowing more water to stay in the mortar and participate in the cement hydration reaction. Compared with HPMC, HEMC has a higher gel temperature development.
Mikazone® Hydroxyethyl Methyl Cellulose (HEMC) is widely used as an additive to building chemicals and it commits to improved open time, lubrication, and resistance to sagging for cement-based or gypsum-based dry mix mortars, to realize easy workability.
